Maksim "Maks" Chmerkovskiy is a professional ballroom and latin dancer from Ukraine. He is the older brother of fellow Dancing with the Stars's cast member Valentin Chmerkovskiy.

He joined Dancing with the Stars in season 2 and has been a member of the professional cast ever since. He has made four appearances in the finals: in season 4 he finished third with partner Laila Ali, in season 5 he finished second with singer Melanie Brown, in season 10 he finished second with ESPN broadcaster Erin Andrews, and in season 12 he finished third with actress Kirstie Alley.

He is known for talking back to the judges when he disagrees with their critiques. In season 11 he got in a heated argument with judge Carrie Ann Inaba when she negative reviews to his instant dance choreography. And most notably, in season 13 he told head judge Len Goodman "maybe it's time to retire" after Goodman mentioned his 50+ years of experience in the business, which cause Inaba and Bruno Tonioli to scold him for being disrespectful.

He was recently reunited with Kirtie Alley for the all-star season of the show. They finished in 7th place.
