The Mambo is a dance performed on Dancing with the Stars.
History
A Latin dance, originated in Cuba in the 1930's. It follows a pattern similar to the Salsa; however, the counting differs. Like the Salsa, the Mambo is not one of the five competitive Latin dances.
On the show
The Mambo was introduced to Dancing with the Stars in season 3.
Rules regarding this dance vary. In early seasons, it was judged as a regular Latin dance and therefore no lifts were allowed. However, most recently in season 15, lifts were allowed since it was competed as part of "Opponents' Choice" week, when several non-traditional dances were competed.
